The new dome theatre will be
35 feet high in the center and
70 feet across, allowing for
birds to be flown in a partially
covered all weather area.
This area, looking from the village towards
the dome site, will be a new plaza
area with seating for a new
improved snack shack.
After the old backdrop is taken down,
benches are pulled out and
and removed.
The Drive-thu is now clearly visible
behind the removed backdrop
and benches.
Some of the heavier cement benches
are removed with a back hoe.
Large shrubs are removed and several
trees are to be taken out of the area
Horticulturist Bob Craft has begun
removing three very tall poplars
out of the area in which the new dome will
be built. The cut wood was given to the
elephants for browse and smaller
pieces were left in the drive-thru
for other animals.
Elephant rangers visit site and discuss
what will be needed for the
elephants who will be using the
dome theatre
Construction has begun for the 12 foot
backdrop which will be created from ferro-cement
by Brad Ball and Safari Staff.
The new arena area is cleared and a tent
set up to protect workers from the winter weather.
Bob surveys metal framework
before the next stage begins.
After the framework is completed, Brad
now begins to use 1/4" pencil steel to form
the rock shapes. This work will support the lath that will hold
the cement.
As you can see here, it would help to
have three hands at times, which is
where John comes in!
