The cub just a couple hours
after birth. This little miracle was born thorugh a cesarian section,
shortly after her sister was born by natural birth. This cub will
become an official ambassador for the species through our educational programs
at the park. Darcie will hand raise the cub. Hopefully her
dog will take a liking to the new member of the family. (Weight:
324g) (11:15am July 28,1998) (Mother: Camilla)
After a day in the incubator,
our little cub enjoys another bottle feeding session, one of 9 daily.
Various volunteers and staff spend a shift watching and caring for the
cub 24 hours each day.
(age: 1 day)
This is a little dark, but
this is Jalani at 22 days old. She weighs in at 800 grams.
Notice that her eyes are wide open, and she loves her stuffed leopard doll.
Here is little Jalani at
4 weeks.
This picture came to me undated,
but I really liked it. I think it is between 3 and 4 weeks.
Here, Jalani and
her sister, Tukana, are about 9 weeks old. Tukana was born a natural
birth the day before Jalani. It is not usual for cheetahs to participate
in football, but the ball is a good reference to show how large she has
grown. Soon, Jalani will begin to travel to schools.
Jalani is 67
days old in this photo. This is the first shot taken out side.
She was very active and ran around a lot. It was hard to get her
to sit still for a picture. It was amazing to see her run so fast.
She looks like a little kitten, but when I saw her run it reminded me she
was a wild cat.
Here is Jalani
at 73 days. She weighs 3.2 kg. Jalani is the more outgoing
than her sister, Tukana. Jalani is now back in side, but still running
around.
This is our
first photo of Tukana by her self. Even though she is one day older
she is somewhat smaller. This is due to a mild illness while still
with her mother. Soon she will be re-introduced to Camilla, her mother
in the drive though. Tukana weighs 2.6 kg in this photo at 74 days.
This photo was taken the same day as the previous photo of Jalani.
This is a photo of Jalani
on October 16th. She is sitting on the table because see wouldn't
look at the camera. She and her sister were both very lazy today.
Jalani is getting bored with the football, but soon we will be switching
to a basketball to go with the seasons.
This is a photo of Takana
on October 16th. As you can see, Tukana is lounging around. This
photo will most likely be the last of Tukana for sometime. Takana
is now in the drive through. The first day Tukana was out in the
drive through she scared one of the male cheetahs. She is constantly
chirping for her sister Jalani. But she has plenty of company.
This is a photo of Jalani
on October 23rd. This is the photo just a day after Tukana was put
out in the drive though. As you can see Jalani is lonly, but has
plenty of human company. Yesterday Jalani was in Medford, OR being
interviewed by the news (or should I say Amy was getting interviewed).
Jalani is now meeting the public. She has been taking pictures with
the public for a couple of weeks.
Here is Jalani at 87 days
old. The jungle she is in was just recently added. As you see,
she plays in the jungle football league. Jalani has figured out how
to greet people from her room, she climbs up to her window sill when people
look in at her.
Here, Jalani is 95 days old.
Today she is very rambunctious, running all over her room bouncing off
the walls. Here she is pausing a few moments on her travel box.
Jalani is growing very fast, everytime I look in on her, she has grown.
This is a November 5 photo.
This week she was again quite busy. She is now 101 days old.
Here is Jalani on her pink
blanket. Today Jalani is 114 days old. As you see she is lounging
around.
Today, November 20, Jalani
is feeling a little frisky. Today there was no way Jalani was going
to sit still. She is quite a character.
