Learning Opportunities at Wildlife Safari

Students have many opportunities to experience some exciting instructional activities that
provide added value to the classroom curriculum.

Professional staff at Wildlife Safari bring many years of field experience to these lessons,
giving students information they can find nowhere else. Each lesson includes an instructional
session, and an interactive session.  Some of the lessons include field studies in the drive
thru parts of the park as students learn about wildlife habitat.

Lessons include:

NATURAL RESOURCES
Instructor:  Bob Craft

"Who Lives Here"  (1/2 hour classroom, 1 hour field activity)

 In this lesson, students will investigate wildlife habitat.  Concepts include Population, System, Organism.
 Students will learn about how animals interact with their habitat,  and identify similarities and and diversity of wildlife habitats.

"The Range Environment" (1 hour classroom, 1 hour field activity)

 In this lesson, students will learn how to observe and record  observations about the various elements in the range habitat.
 Concepts include Organism, interaction, system, and observation

"Introduction to the Riparian Environment"  (1/2 hour classroom, 1 hour field activity)

 In this lesson, students will learn about the elements found in the riparian environment, and how they relate to each other.
 Concepts include:  Change, System, Interaction
 

LEARN ABOUT THE ANIMALS

"Sense-ational Animals" (1/2 hour instruction, 1/2 hour interaction)

 In this lesson, students will delve into the world of animal sensory systems, and how they use their senses to survive.
 Concepts include:  Organism, system, interaction

"Amazing Adaptations"  (1/2 hour instruction, 1/2 hour interaction)

 In this lesson, students animals adapt to their surroundings and conditions.
 Concepts include:  Change, System, Interaction

"Backyard Neighbors"  (1/2 hour instruction, 1/2 hour interaction)

 In this lesson, students meet an assortment of native North American Animals.
 Concepts include:  Diversity, Interaction, System

"Hunters of the Sky"  (1/2 hour instruction, 1/2 hour interaction)

 In this lesson, students will meet our Birds of Prey, and how they differ from other birds.
 Concepts include:  Change, System, Interaction

"The Unique World of Reptiles"  (1/2 hour instruction, 1/2 interaction)
Instructor:  Tom Mintun
 In this lesson, students will learn about the 5 groups of reptiles and their care.
 Concepts include:  Diversity, System, Organism

"Make that Animal Behave!"  (1/2 hour instruction, 1/2 hour interaction)
Instructor:  Ron Whitfield
 In this lesson, students learn the basics of animal care and behavioral enrichment.
