THE CAPE ELAND
(Taurotragus oryx)
The cape eland is the world's largest antelope, weighing
between 850 and 2,100 lbs. The range from Ethiopia, southern Zaire
to South Africa, inhabiting grasslands and open woodlands. They will
eat any kind of foliage, and are able to survive in areas of unsuitable
forage for other animals.
A single calf is born after a gestation period of 8.5-9
months.
