THE AFRICAN LION
(Panthera leo)
The African Lion is the most social of the cats, living in prides of up to 30 females and one to five males.  They range from the Southern Sahara to southern Africa.  They inhabit grasslands to desert.  Lions eat various ungulates from buffalo, wildebeest and antelope, consuming animals weighing from 100 to 1000 lbs.

Females raise their young together, and will  nurse cubs other than their own.
