THE OSTRICH
(Struthio camelus)
The Ostrich is the larges living bird, reaching heights
of 8 feet and weigh up to 250 lbs. They range throughout Africa and
Arabia, where they inhabit open savannas and sandy deserst. They
eat grass and leaves.
The males are black, the females are a grayish brown.
The eggs can weigh up to 4 lbs, and hatch after an incubation period of
42 days. Both the males and females incubate the eggs.
