Lemur
Islands
Wildlife Safari is finishing the last stages of construction for the two
new lemur islands and housing facilities. In the lower village we
have created two islands, one for the Red Ruff Lemurs and one for
the Ring Tailed Lemurs. Connected to each island by a bridge are
the new housing and care facilities. A shallow moat around the islands
will allow for better viewing of the animals in a more natural setting.Lemurs
are afraid of water and will not cross eight inch depths.
Drive-through
Reversal After
twenty-eight years of operation, we have discovered that weve been sending
you through the park in the wrong direction! The views of the park
and animal exhibits are better when you reverse the flow of traffic.
As you enter the drive-through you are greeted by the ostriches and enjoy
a great view of the lion huts and the backside of Africa. Experience
Wildlife Safari in a whole new way beginning Memorial Day.
Tortoise
Shell A new exhibit that
features exotic and endangered tortoises from three different continents.
Miniature
Mediterranean Donkeys
Two of our newer residents are located in the Children's Zoo.
C.J. and Tumbleweed are miniature donkeys that stand around 30 inches tall
when full grown!
Game
Show Take
the Safari Challenge in the Indoor Theatre. Wildlife Safari will
be producing our first animal game show this summer. Guests
will be selected from the audience, and invited to come on down to play
this exciting game. Safari Challenge is a combination of every game
show you have ever seen with a little bit of Survivor and Millionaire mixed
in. It will be fun for the participants and for the guests in the
audience.
Lorikeets
Watch for the new Lorikeet exhibit opening in the summer of 2001.
Guests will be able to enter the habitat and feed these fascinating
small parrots. Lorikeets have a feathered tongue and lap up syrup
(like hummingbird food) out of small cups the guests can hold.
Tropical
Rain Forest Wildlife
Safari is in the process of constructing an Oasis in the middle of the
village. We are converting a former animal exhibit into a tropical
rain forest, complete with waterfall, lush vegetation, misters and benches
to enjoy the climate change and tropical foliage.
Village
Expansion When visitors begin
going through the drive thru "backwards", visitors to the village will
begin to stroll freely through an acre of new gardens where emus and
fallow deer once roamed. The new area will include a Cheetah Run demonstration
area and a new home for our pony ride.
Pachyderm
Power!! When was the last
time you played tug-of-war? And when you did, was it with a elephant? This summer you
will have opportunities almost everyday to challenge one of our elephants
to the ultimate power challenge. Call before you come out and see
what time you can test your strength. It's a great photo opportunity
for the spectators!
